Trail Camera Shootout Results
Fra
This was a Fun Test But took a lot of time to Put together.I Invited all The main Brands But Some of them Never got back to us.I will Do Another Test next year and invite them again. I was Able To Hire some Local Wildlife Actors for this test thanks to them liking My Clover. This worked much better than Me walking around and trying to trigger the cameras. The Cameras In This Shootout are from Moultrie,WGI,Cuddeback,Stealthcam,Boly,Cabelas,Muddy,Brow ning,Spypoint And Bushnell. We had Great results from Bushnell and Moultrie Cams With Mixed results from the others. Bushnell Aggressor Cam 24MP All I Can Say is "WOW" with this camera. The Day Pictures were Excellent and the Night pictures were were At the top of this group. While prices vaery greatly on this Camera on thew net ,It Is an excellent choice for those wanting the highest Quality pictures Available from a Trail Camera.Battery life was excellent and Pictures were almost always Centered. Spypoint Force Cam 12 We were really disapointed in this camera. We have and still use Some Spypoint cameras from years ago. These cameras continue to work great for us.This camera Had Terrible Night Pictures and Only Decent Day pics.Really Mixed results with this one. Not what we would want to take a chance on in the woods. Stealthcam PX28G 10MP This Camera was pretty solid for the Price.Trigger Speeds were a Bit slow but still Took Serviceable pics most of the time.Day Pictures were pretty decent with Some Night pictures ok and others not so good. If you can find one on a clearance it should be a decent camera for those on a budget. Muddy Pro Cam 10 Let just say I had High Hopes for Muddy Cameras. Those Hopes were Quickly Soured by Poor results. Sometimes Pictures were ok other times they were Horrible.I know Ceaper Cameras Struggle with Motion but this was Not a very good showing from Muddy. This is one that I Would probably Stay away from. Cuddeback Long Range Trail Camera With Cuddebacks Reputation on Quick tgrigger Speeds. We Were Very Disapointed in This Camera. Most triggers Had Deer Already almost out of the Picture .With Decent Night Pictures and Decent Day pictures .This Is not The Camera fro Guys looking for a Trail Camera. If Put over a Wallow or a Food plot It will be pretty decent.I think there are lots of better options. Moultrie S50i This Camera Quickly Became Our Favorite .It tied with the Bushnell Aggressor for High Score and Is a Fantastic Camera. It also Takes Very Good Night Pictures and Videos,Trigger Speeds were excellent as well as Battery life.Nothing to complain about here. Moultrie M40i This is a Great Camera that takes good pictures just a Notch or two below the Top Cameras. It is Simple to Set up and took reliably good pictures.Trigger Speed were Good and Battery life was excellent Moultrie A30 This Little Camera Is probably the Best Buy of all the Cameras Tested.Good Serviceable images ,Great Battery Life, Night Pictures were pretty Darn Good too.No Frills Camera That Delivers good Pictures at a great Price. Boly MG 883 14MP This Camera Is a Pretty Solid Unit that will also Do Double Duty as a Wireless Camera on the AT&T Network. That Presented a Problem for us in North Idaho. We simply Could not Get Service where we wanted to test the camera. So Make sure You Have AT&T available where you want to put the camera at. Picture Quality was good for Both Day and Night Pictures. Not Quite Up There with the Two top Scoring Cameras But Solid.Battery Life was Excellent Boly 560 14MP This Camera Took Very Good Day Pictures with Decent Night Pictures.Battery Life was Excellent and it is easy to set up.Not Quite up there with the top tier Cameras But a very Serviceable Camera. Wildgame Innovations Vision 14 This Camera Much like other Lower Priced Cameras Had Mixed Results. Some pretty darn Good Pictures Followed by some Horrible ones. Overall Not to bad.Battery life was Good and it was Easy to set up. Bushnell Trophy Cam Essential E3 This Camera Was Nipping on the Heals of the Top Two Cameras in the Test.Everything was Just a Step Below in Terms of Quality. The Battery Life Was Excellent and it Took Very Good Day Pictures. Trigger speeds were excellent also. Browning Strike Force 10mp This Camera Finished in the Middle Of The Pack with Decent Day Pictures and Lackluster Night pictures. Trigger Speed Was Decent and Battery Life was good.It is underwhelming in the Night Pictures or would have finished quite a bit better. Cabelas Outfitter 14mp Camera These Cameras Are Built By Boly for Cabelas .They Actually Outperformed Their Own Branded Stuff, Good Day Pictures with Good Night pictures,Battery Life was Very good and the Camera is very easy to set up.Nothing to complain about here. Cuddeback IR Trail Camera Wow this Camera is Quite underwhelming on Performance.Dont waste your Time with this one. Results went from Bad To Ok To Decent to Bad to pretty good,All in one series of Pictures. Lots of Blurred pictures and Deer Barely in the In the Frames. |

Sig Sauer Kilo 2000 Review
Extreme accuracy is what we were after when we engineered the KILO2000.
Updating at 4X per second in HyperScan mode, the KILO2000 rangefinder with patented LightWave™ DSP technology is amazingly fast as well. Couple that with the ability to range reflective targets at 3400 yards, trees at 1500 yards, and deer at 1200 yards for simple, intuitive long distance ranging. The built in inclinometer calculates AMR™ Angle Modified Range for angled shots. Our proprietary Lumatic OLED Display™, automatically adjusts display intensity to match ambient light conditions, bright in bright conditions and dim in twilight to protect your eye. The KILO2000’s simplified user interface displays your system status and while ranging, only provides your necessary data.
In Our time Testing this Unit.It Quickly Became a Favorite among the testers. It's Compact size along with A Very Good Response time were very impressive. We were able to Consistently Out Range Other Range Finders Costing Up to 4 Times the Street Price of this Unit.Head to head With a Very Popular 1600 Yard model, The Kilo Simply Out Ranged it Convincingly. We Were Able to Get 2200 Yards out of Non Reflective targets Very Consistently. We Were also able to get Just shy of 2600 Yards to a Very Reflective target. This Combined with the Very Good price on this unit Make in a Best Buy In Range Finders. It Seems That Sig Sauer Is ready to Take on Some Heavy hitters in the Optics and Range Finder Markets. If This Range Finder is a Indication of the Quality Of their other Products Watch out. They are Going to Shake up the market pretty Good. This Unit is readily Available for $499 And Quite a Bit less if you Do a little Digging.Don't Hesitate to Pick one Up You Will be Very Impressed.

Nikon Monarch 7 Binocular Review
e Really liked the New Monarch 7 Binos from Nikon. They are an incredible buy in their price Range. We have found them to be very rugged and deliver a very crisp image.
The ED Glass has really helped with Chromatic Aberration and Provides for a Solid Image. Nikon has really Put Pressure on the the European Binos ,While Not Quite there yet they are getting closer. These are for the average Joe So to Speak. They do a great job and do not break the bank.I have tested quite a few Binos in their Price range and these would have to be at the top of the class.......
We used them Quite a bit for Elk Hunting this year and loved the compact size and light weight. They will do 95% of what the Really Expensive binos do and Most will Not Feel at all Cheated by their Performance. We would not hesitate to use thse on any Hunt we do.We are goint to give these a 4.25 Star

Opticron DBA VHD 10x42 BINOCULAR REVIEW
$929 Retail
We have had the Opticron DBA VHD for an extended review. We Fought Back and Forth to see who had the Opportunity to use this Fine glass. We Usually Resulted to a Coin Flip. In The Under A $1000 Price range these are about as good as they Get.We Found that they outperformed Glass That Will Set you back a lot more Money. We Have Several Of Our Friends with High End glass Such as Leica Take to these And Not want to give them back. I have several Buddies that Have picked these Binos up after trying them out. Both Guys Picked them up for their Wives and Have had Zero regrets. They are Shocked by how close they are to their European Binos on performance and 1 of them Even Likes them Better than his Coveted Leicas. We Find them to Do 95% of what the Highly Prized European Binos Offer in Performance. With hat said They are generally a 1/3 of the Price. At this Price There really is not much that compare. They are rugged, Very Shock Proof,They survived a couple good Falls and Still continue to Shine. They have Outstanding Resolution and Contrast and Resist Chromatic Abberation Splendidly.I would Not Hesitate to Recomend These to anyone. They do Not have the So Called V.I.P. Warranty of some binos like the Vortex brand They Do Come with a Lifetime warranty but wont Cover you if you Decide to drop them in a fire or something.,I wouldnt let the warranty Stand in the way.The Best Warranty is the one you never need and I really Doubt you will ever need it.These are a Solid Choice for Birders or Hardcore Big Game Hunters alike.
We Put these Through Our Tests such as 30 minutes in a hot tub Follwed by 2 Hours in the freezer and They performed flawlessly. The Dioter Adjustent is Easy to use and not Hard to figure out,.The Eye Cups are high Quality and rotate out with little effort. We have zero Knocks on this Bino and Wish Opticron Luck in the North American Market. Athlon Cronus 4.5-29x56 Review
When We Started the Review On the Athlon Cronus We had High Hopes.Athlon is a newer Player in the Optics business. We were Not Disappointed. We Started with Our Hot Tub Soak for 30 Minutes and then in the Freezer for 2 hours.
This Test has Caused problems for many an Optic Regardless of Price. After wiping some of the ice off the scope we started turning Turrets and The Mag ring.Followed By Parallax and Illumination and Diopter Adjustment. These Tests were passed with Flying Colors.Everything worked as it should.
Next we Did our tracking Tests. Our tracking Tests Came up with nothing. We moved on to our Recoils tests Which includes 40 shots through a 338 Lapua with 300 Gr bullets. There were no changes with the Scope and It remained Consistent. We Moved on to our Optics Testing and can Truly Say At this scopes Price point it is Quite the Overachiever. With a Street Price of $1699 I cant Think of Anything on the Market that will compete with it
Resolution and Contrast were great. There is no Appreciable Chromatic Aberration to Speak of.This Scope Flat out Is Solid. It Compares to exceeds Scopes costing Quite a Bit More Money. You Really Cant Go Wrong with The Cronus.
This Scope is at home On Any Hunting Rifle Or Tactical Rifle.

Novagradereview
On A recent Mule deer Hunting trip i had the Pleasure to use the Novagrade Phone Adapter. This Unit Is Easy to Set Up With Virtually any Spotting Scope Phone combo.
I was Able to Get very high Quality Photos and Videos using it.This thing is well Built and easy to go from spotting scope to spotting scope.I have a bunch of Spotting scopes on hand And the only One that did not work was the Swaro.I Was Told By Doug at Novagrade they are working on one presently. While Using Our Kowa 88MM Spotting scope We were able to get some great video of Very Large Mule Deer at Very long range.
The Product is Rock Solid and Not One where as you change Phone or Spotting scopes need to buy different Plastic parts to make it work. While this Unit is Slightly More expensive than The Competition ,It is a Way better Built Product with s Great Deal Of versatility On a Ruggedly made Product.
I would Not hesitate to chose it over anything on the market. It Worked Flawlessly And Caused me and my Son to Argue over who gets to use it.
Overall i give this a Star Review.

Opticron MM3 60 GA ED Spotting Scope Review by Bryce Wells Phot Credits Sabrina Wells
I dont Believe in writing a Bunch of Fluffy Stuff about Optics and Keep My Reviews on Point.
We have had this Little Jewel of a Spotting Scope On Quite a few Back Country Scouting Trips. It Is The Perfect balance of Quality Optics And Lightweight.Lightweight is a Must when Traveling Long Distances. The Pounds add up Quick in the Back Country ,Where Our Motto is "Go in Light,Come Out Heavy!
Opticron Has Not Only hit a Home Run with This,They Have Hit A Grand Slam. There Is No Equal to it In Its Price range. Dont let the Compact Size Fool you,This Glass Is Incredible.I have Tested a Ton Of Spotting scopes in the past and Simply can not Believe How Good this is.It gives up Very Little to Full Size Spotters Costing 3-4 times as Much ..For Back Country Types this is The Spotter to have,It Certainly will not break the Bank and will provide a Lifetime Of service. With Nice Features like Dual Speed Focus A very Compact size and Weight. It is Our Spotting scope of choice when We Hit the Back Country. With A Quality Built product they have managed to Keep The Prices Way Down. This Should Result in Good Sales.
The Dual Speed Focus is a Nice Touch I would like to see incorporated into the Full Size Spotter.
Opticron Is without a Doubt the Best Optics you have never heard of in North America. They Are Sure to make a Big Splash here.
It survived Our Hot tub To Freezer Test with Zero Problems. We Put the optic in a Hot Tub for 30 minutes and the in the freezer for 2 hours. Many A Optic has failed this test. The Units Construction is Top Notch And a Key reason for Being able to survive this test.
We used this spotter in the worst Rainstorm I have been while Bear hunting and It worked Flawlessly. We Don't Let Weather Dictate when we hunt and Neither should You.
Do Yourself a favor and take a look at the Opticron Products. You Will be Impressed.
The MM3 GA ED series is the latest evolution of the popular travelscope concept pioneered by Opticron 20 years ago with the original Mighty Midget. Combining all the things that have made Opticron travelscopes the #1 choice for so many wildlife observers over the years, the MM3 50 & 60 GA ED have been designed and engineered to deliver the company’s maxim of “smaller, lighter, brighter, sharper” to a new generation of spottingscope users.
Constructed from polycarbonate and lightweight alloys, the super-compact optical system creates a body only 8” long (50mm) and 10” long (60mm). At 21oz (50mm) / 26oz (60mm), without eyepiece, an MM3 GA ED weighs around the same as pair of 42mm binoculars and can be used without a support for crystal clear flat field observation at magnifications below 20x. Unlike binoculars, an MM3 GA ED continues to deliver stunning clarity and definition up to 36x (50mm) and 45x (60mm).
Compatibility with the full range of HDF and SDL eyepieces means existing fieldscope owners can use their eyepieces with a new MM3 GA ED body.
Fully rain and dust proof and protected against knocks and bumps with full-body rubber covering, the MM3 GA ED is available in straight-through and 45° angled bodies to suit different applications.
Features and specifications at a glance:
- Super-compact ED “extra low dispersion glass” objective
- High contrast fully multi-coated optical system
- Accurate 8:1 dual focusing system
- Close focus to 8.2ft (50mm), 11.5ft (60mm)
- Fully armored body
- Tripod adapter with +/- 90 degree rotation
- Removable rubber objective lens cover
- Telephotoadapter option
- Limited Lifetime Warranty
Opticron Review
SunJack® helps mobile users stay charged on the go anywhere the sun shines. The SunJack® is able to fully charge its internal battery pack in about 5 hours of direct sunlight, or directly power any USB device. When the sun isn't shining, users can still energize their devices from the powerful SunJack® battery, which holds enough charge to power up to 4 smartphones. Portable power is valued by campers, boaters, travelers, survivalists, hunters, rock climbers, and working professionals.
The SunJack® is a critical item in any emergency or disaster preparedness kit. There is growing demand to be untethered from a wall socket and to become energy independent. The SunJack® is shipped from California, USA and is supported with a one-year limited warranty.
The SunJack® is compatible Withmost mobile phones, iPad/tablets, USB lights, digital cameras, MP3 players, and portable gaming devices: iPhone 6 Plus 5S 5C 5 4S 4 iPad Air Retina Mini Samsung Galaxy S5 I9600 Neo S4 I9500 I9190 S3 I9300 S3 I8190 S2 Note 3 N9000 Gear HTC Sensation One X S EVO 3D 4G DNA Thunderbolt Incredible Droid DNANexus 4 7 10 LG Optimus V Blackberry Z10 Z30 Q5 Q10 Bold Curve Torch Motorola Razr Maxx Bionic ATRIX Nokia Lumia 1020 920 Google Glasses and other 5V Smartphones.
Portable Solar Chargers are relatively new entrants in the device market for hikers, campers, and outdoor enthusiasts and while they may not make the same level of impact as personal GPS, but they are still very, very useful. The SunJack Portable Solar Charger can provide up to 14 watts of power to charge a variety of devices and power banks.
-
- The Sunjack Portable Charger will work in the shade, although it will take longer to charge devices. For best results point the solar panels directly into the sunlight, and preferably unobstructed by windows.
- While you can charge and power devices directly from the solar panels from my experiences it is best to use the solar panel to charge the power bank over the course of the day and then use the power bank to charge and power your devices. Another strategy is since the Solar panel has two outputs you can charge or power two devices at once.
- The 4 solar panels can fold up to something that is slightly smaller (and lighter) than a typical hardcover book.
- Comes with a 8000mah power bank. At 8000mAh you can charge an iPhone 3 times or supply about a 75% charge to an iPhone 4. The power bank had two outputs - Output 1 supplies 1A at 5V, Output 2 supplies 2A at 5V.
- The overall build quality is very solid - the stitching an build quality is very solid.
Final Verdict - The Sunjack Portable solar charge is a lightweight and compact solar cell, that when used in full sunlight, can deliver up to 14 watts of power. Now of course that isn't enough to fire up a portable air conditioner or refrigerator, but it is enough to power up a cell phone or power bank. The Overall construction and build quality is very solid - so this is a pretty easy 5 star recommendation.

The Overall construction and build quality is very solid - so this is a pretty easy 5 star recommendation.

We got our S7 to test during Bear Season. That is the perfect time to test optics. We are in the field a whole lot at that time and took lots of Other Spotters to compare the S7 to.
The Build Quality is solid,Optically we found this Spotter to Be lacking a little bit.It is just not there with others in its price range. Now it is not Bad but We had Spotters that were considerably less money that performed better. We were Quite surprised by this finding as the Binocular we reviewed was quite good.It passed our torture test with zero problems. After 30 minutes in the Hot Tub and 2 hours in the Freezer everything worked as it should. This in itself saysthe Buid Quality is good. The resolution was just ok and it had Quite a bit of Chromatic abberation .Center of the optic was clear but did not carry that out to the edges.I am not one for asking for another unit while testing as I feel that is not fair. If the average Joe would have got this one i am sure he would be disapointed.Hopefully this was just a Bad example? We did get a good Deal of time behind it and just never settled in with it. We found ourselves turning to other spotters when looking for Bear. Overall It was just "ok"....We will have to see about getting another to test in the future. |

When We Started the Review On the Athlon Cronus We had High Hopes.Athlon is a newer Player in the Optics business. We were Not. Disappointed.
It Compares or exceeds Scopes costing Quite a Bit More Money. You Really Cant Go Wrong with The Cronus.
This Scope is at home On Any Hunting Rifle Or Tactical Rifle.

NIGHTFORCE BEAST 5-25X56 REVIEW
The Nightforce Beast Is Their Best Scope to Date.Optically It is a huge step forward over the NXS Series. While the NXS is without a Doubt One of the Most Rugged scopes ever Produced It lacke Optically Compared to the ATACR and BEAST Models.
Nightforce mahaged to Get a full 60 Moa Per Revolution into the Turrets. This is a Impressive Accomplishment. There was Absolutely Nothing Not to like about this scope. Great Resolution Perfect Tracking,Very little Chromatic Abberation,Great Contrast. It is easy to see whay Nightforce is atthe Top off the Scope World.
As An Added Bonus my Son Used it on One of Our Elk Hunts in Idaho to Take a Nice 6x6 Bull Elk at 864 Yards. The Scope performed flawlessly for him.

Snypex 10x42 Review
Snypex Binocular Review
10x42 APO Binos (Prototype)
MSRP $ 679
This Company is out of New York.It most likely is one you have never heard of before. They have some great products at Competitive prices.
Sam, the Owner Was Very helpful with getting the Binos out for us to test.As With all tests and Reviews We had some Product That was Slow to get to us.We were hoping for a couple of the other Brands that are on the way to make it by the time I wrote this.
I test Some of the Best optics In the world and Usually have The Top Brands On hand.
I Think of the Swarovski El 10x42 Swarovision as My Reference Piece. They are the Ones Everyone Is Chasing.
Sam ,Has Informed me that these new Binos Are APO Glass and It shows in the testing of them. They are Definitely An Upgrade over Previous Binos form This Same Company. Not that the Previous ones were not a good product. They have Stepped up their Game with these. They are very Pleasing to the eye and had Very Very good Low Light Performance. We Do A Ton Of hunting and Took Them with us On a Couple of our Spring Bear Hunts. As I usually Do I Passed them Around for All Of Our Hunting buddies to look Through.I got A lot of " Never heard of Them".I assured them they were a Quality Product.Everyone that looked through them was Impressed. We Had Quite a Few other Brands with Us and the Snypex Stacked Up Well against Brands Like Steiner,Leupold,Opticron,Minox,Styrka,Swarovski,Yes you read That right Swarovski.
Now The Snypex is Not Quite on par With the Swarovkis yet .They are getting very Close. They offer A very good Ability to Resolve Small Details and The APO Glass Has Helped with Chromatic Aberration .They have Good Resolution and Contrast. While I am Not A Birder,These would appeal to them as well. They tend to be much more critical of optics than the average hunter. But Hunters are much Harder on Equipment.
For our tesst We Did our Hot Tub Test which is set at a Comfy 102 Degrees. We Soak them for Between 15-20 Minutes at a Little less than 3 feet deep. After the hot tub Comes the Freezer test.I put them in for about 2 hours and then run them through all of the tests again. We Cycle them though focusing ,Diopter adjustments ,Rotating Eye Cups in and out and these performed flawlessly. They are very at home in Hostile environments and would make a hunter Quite a good Friend in the Field.
We Are Very Critical of How Our Optics Perform in the field and Would not Hesitate to take these on Any Hunts we do.
We Test in the Field,They Get Dirty,Wet,Sometimes Dropped,And Much Like A Timex Watch " They Took a Licking,And Kept on Ticking"
